Mobile fire fighting system for crude storage facility
The largest indigenous oil production and refining company in Abu Dhabi were constructing a new crude storage facility of strategic national importance. The floating roof tanks at 110m in diameter were some of the largest in the world – storing crude valued at $120m.
Our client had already specified Angus fixed foam equipment to protect these tanks using high specification foam concentrate – Tankmaster. However, the value of this facility in both financial and tactical terms meant that they wanted to plan for every possible fire scenario – including a full surface fire in one of the floating roof tanks.
Angus Fire Engineering pulled together its in-house expertise to look for the solution – a fully mobile system that could be deployed to any one of the tanks, which was also completely stand-alone, using sea water pumped through high volume large diameter hose to a high capacity mobile monitor.
The unique combination of Angus Fire Engineering’s expertise and understanding in mobile fire equipment and engineering skills made it possible to meet the brief to get foam on top of a 20m high tank from a distance of 140m.
